Almost all signs of a night of terror in a child, a spouse, partner or friend, but the precise definition of the condition known in medical literature as Pavor Nocturnus requires a reference to the four stages of sleep.
In Pavor Nocturnus, suddenly wakes up from sleep stage 4 sleep, usually by shouting, screaming, moaning, and sighing, and then back to sleep without fully awakening. Stage 4 is the deeper, more regenerativestage of sleep.
In phase 1 of sleep, the eyes roll slowly, while the mind wander. Body temperature and pulse both fell.
In stage 2 sleep, the eyes were quiet, and sleep may start to snore as increasing airway resistance. Dreams during stage 2 sleep, is usually called in vague terms.
In phase 3 of sleep, take loud noise to wake the sleeping. There is a further slowing of metabolism and the lowering of the bodytemperature, respiration and heartbeat and the pituitary gland begins to secrete growth hormone for the repair and regeneration of tissues.
In stage 4 sleep is almost impossible to wake the sleeping. Pulse and temperature are at their lowest point in the night, and the production of growth hormone is greatest. Night terrors occur during stage 4 sleep.
And in REM sleep or rapid eye movement, and the momentum of about 5 percent faster than in other stages of sleep, andThere is a call to live the dream. If the dream of a healthy, it is difficult to sleep or wake her.
Not everyone goes through phases of sleep, at the same time, but most suffer from this condition go to stage 4 sleep and are susceptible to episodes 45-90 minutes after going to bed. It 'almost as if the brain was not fully in rem, so that the tension and terror building results.
Children, in particular, but also adults, that nightTerrors often can not remember them. The idea is usually "gaps" in the deepest phase of sleep terrors, when absent, but a person may take a bed for five minutes to half an hour, while the heart beats 160-180 beats per minute, the hard as in weight during vigorous exercise. The next morning, there may be a vague memory of a shadow, threatening person or animal (including snakes and spiders), but often there is no recollection of the event.
There are severalthings, a night terror are not the following:
This is not a sign of mental illness, particularly in children. (Adults in contact with this condition tend to have suffered traumatic stress.)
This is not evidence of physical abuse.
It is not caused by fear of watching movies or listening to the arguments, even if this form of emotional stress can cause insomnia.
And there are several ways to distinguish these horrors of the night from other common sleepdisorders:
Nightmare is remembered. Li is not.
In small children nightmares usually occur between 4 to 6 terrors usually occur between 1 and 3
A child has a nightmare react to consolation. A child who is a terrorist, not normally.
Nightmares occur during REM sleep. Terrors occur during deep sleep.
Convulsions startend very quickly (usually less than 2 minutes) than either nightmares or horror (up to 30 minutes). Seizures can have an explosive start and an end just as suddenly.
Nightmares are not normally associated with shortness of breath or heartbeat. Li is usually associated with both wheezing and heart racing.
The causes of terror night is dark as the state itself, but the blood sugar (hypoglycemia), use of certainantidepressants, and genetics may play a role. And because people who have experience of a night terror is not a dream that accompany them, usually do not remember them. It 'OK to tell adults who have this disease, but usually not a good idea to tell young children.
