Tests with a reducedActigraph as volunteers had to wear for 6 nights in a row to accurately record data as they slept. Among males, it was common for them to overestimate the amount of time that actually had slept every night, while women have given conflicting opinions and tend to underestimate the amount they had slept on a daily basis.
It was also found that the use of drugs to help aid sleep is much more widespread among women, but also makes them feel they have just sleptshorter periods of pain in comparison with the recorded data. Alcohol use is more common in men and using it seems to have reduced the time to sleep well.
Thus, contrary to common belief, women who want a better level of total sleep, while men experienced a higher frequency of sleep disorders.
